Creatures & Clay: A Chameleon Handbuilding Workshop

Enjoy a one-of-a-kind pottery workshop featuring some very special live guests to Dumbo Ceramics: chameleons!
In this playful 2-hour handbuilding class, participants will get up close with live chameleons, learn fun facts about these amazing reptiles, and use them as inspiration for their own clay creations. Participants can choose one piece to keep. Staff will fire and glaze your piece, ready for pickup in 3-4 weeks.
A guest animal handler will be joining the class for the full workshop with live chameleons. He’ll introduce participants to the animals, share fun facts, answer questions, and bring the chameleons around during the class so everyone can observe them up close and draw inspiration for their clay pieces. At the end, participants will also have the chance to take photos with the chameleons.
During the workshop, a clay instructor will guide everyone through sculptural handbuilding techniques, including how to shape animal-inspired forms and create reptile skin textures in clay.
Projects might include lizard sculptures, reptile caves or hides, animal-themed cups, bowls, vases, or other nature-inspired pieces.
