Future Dumbo
Here’s a look at what Team Dumbo is working towards in the decade to come:
A New Recreation Center at Brooklyn Bridge Park
For below the Manhattan Bridge. The BID will advocate for and help advance Brooklyn Bridge Park’s plans for a new facility, complete with an indoor pool, basketball court, and much more, heading our way at Plymouth and Adams Street.
A Second Entrance for the York Street F Train
One entrance is not enough – we will continue to advocate for much-needed safety and ADA enhancements at the York Street Station.
Better Pedestrian Crossings and Public Space Below and Around the BQE
Dumbo is popular and we need to create safe, accessible, and navigable gateways to the neighborhood. Check out our proposals for the Brooklyn Strand here.
More Opportunities for Affordable Housing
There are opportunities to develop housing on City-owned properties and in privately held office buildings along the perimeter of the neighborhood. We will work with the City to identify properties and support the conversion of the old Watchtower buildings into much-needed housing for New Yorkers.
More Direct Ferry Service, and an Additional Stop at Jay Street.
Our waterfront is our greatest opportunity to increase transit options to Dumbo. Let’s make one-seat rides and service directly to our office buildings a reality.
More Tourism Management Tools from City Agencies
We support Councilmember Lincoln Restler’s call for the City to bring new strategies and resources to manage tourists arriving via vehicles and tour buses, pedestrians, vendors and other impacts of tourism in the neighborhood, to ensure the maximum benefit of these visitors for our community. We will continue to advocate for reforms that would ensure quality of life and safety concerns related to unlawful vending are prioritized in Dumbo. This means putting in the work on a policy level with our BID colleagues, as well as local daily outreach to the NYPD, DSNY and others.
The Dumbo Directory!
Coming very soon: the successful launch of our Dumbo Concierge AI will be put to work for our office tenants and businesses, creating a B2B platform for more cross-pollination, collaboration and resource sharing among the 1,000+ creative / design / tech / production companies in the neighborhood.
Amplifying the Presence of our 120+ Indie Retailers and Restaurants, 170+ Artist Studios and 160+ Design Studios and Shops
When New Yorkers are looking for a weekend activity or a new piece of art, when the tourists descend or our local companies need to reach new clients, the BID’s marketing channels and printed guides will connect the dots and drive business to our membership.
More Belgian Block Restoration
We love the blocks that have been restored- so now let’s get the City to finish the job! Front Street, Jay Street – please share other streets you would like us to consider.
Keeping Dumbo, Well, Dumbo
Dumbo is a Different Side of New York, where the vibes are creative, warm and full of community spirit, and we aim to keep it that way.
