The Brooklyn Public Library

The Brooklyn Public Library provides opportunities to those who wish to be an after-school homework helper. Responsibilities entail supporting and encouraging individuals or small groups in grades 1-8 with various academic tasks. In addition, one should approach learning and direction with care and friendliness. 

Museum of Food and Drink

Do you love food? MOFAD is looking for volunteers to help add to the current exhibition experience. Docents will assist visitors of all ages and guide tours by curating thought provoking information and direction with interactive exhibits. Come explore and discuss with others why “food is culture”! 

Brooklyn Book Bodega 

Are you a bookworm? Spend your time at Brooklyn Book Bodega. Volunteers can expect to sort, stamp, and organize books, in addition to any other special projects. You may also assist in book pick ups or deliveries if you have access to a vehicle. Come on your own or as a family on Family Volunteer Days! 

Dock Street School

Dock Street School is enlisting the help of volunteers for their spring Science Fair and Career Day. Other opportunities include: mentorships/tutors, library assistance, art and music support, or technology support.

THE SERVICE COLLECTIVE

Organizing Brooklyn based volunteer opportunities through their partner organizations (The Fridge and St. Ann’s), The Service Collective is a great way for kids, teens, and families to get involved in their neighborhood. Focusing on addressing food insecurity, activities include meal prep, meal delivery or grocery shopping, and general event organization. Other volunteer events range from supporting clean streets to assisting at animal care centers. 

 THE FORT GREENE FRESH PANTRY

Looking for a consistent way to give back? Check out the Fort Greene Fresh Pantry, operating in the Fort Greene and Clinton Hill neighborhoods, organized by One Community. Shifts are on Fridays and Saturdays and range from packing, driving (car required), and distributing food to the necessary parties. If you are interested in being a shift captain, please indicate on the form!

FAD Market hosts its monthly pop up at Empire Stores from September to November, bringing together artisans and small businesses in NYC.  If you are passionate about fashion, art, or design and have a desire to work in an engaging space for the public, this is your perfect volunteer opportunity. CITYSCIENCE

Fellow Dumbonian as of 2014, CityScience is working to expand upon STEM education and environmental stewardship. Using the built landscape and urban city environment, CityScience hopes to encourage younger generations to better understand their surroundings and enhance their knowledge. Volunteer experiences include: conducting research, gaining professional experiences, or teaching science and providing valuable input.

New York City Council – Participatory Budgeting 

The PBNYC offers a spectrum of volunteer opportunities.
