SUMMARY:"As I See It (Anyone Can Cook)" Art Show
DESCRIPTION:Adams Street Library presents Nick DeSantis in his first (ever\, anywhere) photo exhibition. Images captured on trips into “the City” during college and later while living in DUMBO\, “As I See It (Anyone Can Cook)” briefly covers 50 years of looking at Manhattan and Brooklyn from a not-so-common point of view – with one photo from Pennsylvania thrown in to lighten the mood.

SUMMARY:Book Launch: Burn the Haystack by Jennie Young PhD
DESCRIPTION:It’s time for a dating revolution! \nHow do you find a needle in a haystack? You burn the haystack to the ground. \nAmong Dr. Jennie Young’s legion of fans\, the “needle” is a long-term\, committed partner and the “haystack” is the group of men available to date. So often women are advised to “give the guy a chance\,” to take seriously men whose app bios tell women not to take themselves seriously. Young’s refreshing approach to online dating turns this advice on its head: Give almost no one a chance.

SUMMARY:Practical Spirituality Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Naomi Shu is excited to explore and share the insights that she has gained through her Quantum Healing Hypnosis practice—work that has deeply accelerated her own spiritual growth. Because all the memories and wisdom are held in the subconscious\, she has uncovered the deeper meaning of life\, who we truly are\, why we’re here\, and the underlying truth behind many of our mental and physical challenges\, such as depression and anxiety. Naomi has learned many of the universe’s deeper mysteries while working with clients\, witnessing perspectives and experiences that most people rarely have access to. \nNaomi is looking forward to sharing these understandings with the world\, helping others see themselves and the universe through broader\, higher perspectives. Every challenge we encounter is something we’ve chosen in order to grow through it. The essence of the soul is to learn\, expand\, and evolve—and when we align with that purpose\, peace and joy naturally follow. \nFinally\, have fun making new friends!

SUMMARY:Book Launch: Gary Stewart: I Am From the Honky-Tonks by Jimmy McDonough in conversation with Tammy Faye Starlite
DESCRIPTION:Join Powerhouse Arena for the launch of Gary Stewart: I Am From the Honky-Tonks by Jimmy McDonough\, in conversation with Tammy Faye Starlight. \nAbout the Book: \nAn epic tale of sex\, drugs\, and country music almost 40 years in the making\, the book is the eighth and final biography by Jimmy McDonough (Shakey: Neil Young’s Biography\, Tammy Wynette: Tragic Country Queen)\, and once again reaffirms his status as America’s greatest chronicler of popular culture. \nAn unsung hero of 20th century American music\, Gary Stewart is regarded as one of the most talented singers\, songwriters\, and vocalists of his generation. In the mid-1970s\, crazed hits like “She’s Actin’ Single (I’m Drinkin’ Doubles)” and“Drinkin’ Thing” rocketed Stewart up the charts and earned him the admiration of Bob Dylan\, The Allman Brothers\, Tanya Tucker\, and more. Within a few years\, he had flamed out and all-but-vanished from the music scene. Until Jimmy McDonough barged his way into the spooky\, Florida doublewide Stewart was hiding out in\, beginning a four-decade obsession with the elusive musician. \nUtilizing the unique combination of oral history\, vivid prose\, and personal experience that made McDonough’s Shakey: Neil Young’s Biography a bestseller\, Gary Stewart: I Am From The Honky-Tonks follows a feral Kentucky family who surfed success and rear-ended disaster in drug-soaked\, 1970s Florida. At its core is the tempestuous\, tragic love story of Gary Stewart and his wife\, Mary Lou\, that will leave readers haunted long after they turn the last page. Featuring hundreds of hours of interviews with Gary\, his wife Mary Lou\, family members\, band members\, producers\, cohorts\, dealers\, and fellow stars such as Tanya Tucker\, Willie Nelson\, Dickey Betts\, Dean Dillon\, and Charley Pride\, this intense and exhaustive 544-page book – filled throughout with rare and unseen images collected by McDonough\, and an exclusive cover image by Grandal Stewart (Gary’s brother) – reveals the complete\, untold\, and torrid history of a man who lived life as if  “the plane could crash tomorrow.”

SUMMARY:Book Launch: How to Be a Rich Old Lady by Amanda Holden in conversation with Nikita Redkar
DESCRIPTION:Amanda Holden spent years working in investment management\, where she saw exactly who gets access to the power\, ease\, and opportunity money can bring—and it wasn’t people like her friends. She also saw how the financial system is designed to feel exclusive and confusing\, and how it blames individuals for economic problems they didn’t create. So\, Amanda left her finance job to launch Invested Development\, a financial education company where she has taught more than 25\,000 students how to invest with radical clarity\, accessibility\, and joy.\nHere\, all her expertise is packed into a guide that won’t feel like getting cornered by a crypto bro. Instead\, it reads like a text from your smartest friend: “Let’s figure out money\, so we can stop thinking about money.” Because this practice isn’t just about planning for your wild and glorious future—it’s about the relief of knowing you’re doing everything you can right now.\nHow to Be a Rich Old Lady is a step-by-step road map to financial freedom. Not for the sake of chasing numbers in a spreadsheet\, but to build a life that feels secure enough to dream into. Maybe your Rich Old Lady is wearing belly chains at the beach\, tanned and wrinkly and totally unbothered. Maybe she’s befriending the birds at her cozy forest cabin. Maybe she’s leaving $500 tips on her diner coffee. Whatever your vision\, this approachable guide to investing will help you build a plan to greet her with confidence and genuine hope for tomorrow.

SUMMARY:Scorched Earth
DESCRIPTION:“Visceral and sensational\, taking your breath away.” —The Arts Review \nA murder\, an interrogation\, and a clouded world of fantasy and fear. Scorched Earth is part crime-drama\, part thriller that plumbs a dark\, but fundamental part of the Irish psyche. Luke Murphy\, creator of the multi-award-winning Volcano\, blurs the lines of dance and theater to ask: What right do we have to the land beneath our feet? What are we willing to do to keep it? \nInspired by the John B. Keane’s seminal work The Field\, Scorched Earth imagines a detective reopening a cold case\, an unsolved crime twelve years after the fact. As stories are revisited and old wounds are opened\, The Detective and Suspect fall into a world of memory\, fantasy\, ambition and resentment. \nScorched Earth is brought to you by the team who created the multi-award winning production Volcano\, including Luke Murphy (director\, choreographer\, and performer)\, Alyson Cummins (set design)\, Stephen Dodd (lighting)\, and Rob Moloney (music).

SUMMARY:Art and Letters: A Family Workshop with Artist Cecile Chong
DESCRIPTION:Families are invited to join artist and Board Member Cecile Chong for a creative artmaking and letter-writing workshop inspired by Smack Mellon’s current exhibitions. \nThe program begins at 10:00 AM at Smack Mellon with a brief visit exploring themes of memory\, correspondence\, and place. At 10:30 AM\, participants will walk one block to the Adams Street Library\, where Chong will lead a hands-on workshop. \nInspired by Golnar Adili’s work with family archives and letters exchanged across borders\, participants will create letters\, postcards\, or illustrated messages to send to someone they care about. By writing\, translating\, or sharing words in any language spoken in their families or communities\, participants will experiment with combining words\, handwriting\, and visual marks to create personal messages that reflect their own stories. \nAll materials will be provided. Cecile is fluent in English\, Spanish\, and Cantonese\, and welcomes participants to write and share words in any language spoken in their families or communities. \nOrganized by the Adams Street Library in collaboration with Smack Mellon. \nImages L to R: Cecile Chong by Kamron Hinatsu; Installation view\, Golnar Adili\, To Measure the Emotions of Others.
